Louisiana is known for its Marshlands. These marshlands are also known as wetlands. The wetlands are a water saturated coastal and swamp region that can be found in Southern Louisiana.
Wetlands make up a very small portion of the United States region. However, within this small portion, Louisiana makes up forty to forty five percent of those regions.
The wetlands are economically beneficial as well. These boggy regions help with multiple factors. The wetlands help with the following ecological factors:
* Flood control
* Fisheries production
* Carbon storage
* Water filtration
The landscape of these environments are unique and easily recognized. A wet, spongy, murky colored water that has an overpopulation of plant life, such as cypress trees, water lilies, and algae. The animal life consist of many exotic animals that are native to Louisiana. The wetlands are home to Alligators, Gar Fish, Bass, Nutria, Alligator Snapping Turtles, Egrets, and other aquatic and reptilian animals.
Tourist travel to Louisiana to experience the wetlands natural ecosystem. With the help of an airboat tourists are able to experience first hand the exotic animals the marsh has to offer. Most do not realize the lengths an Ecosystem goes through for life to appear as it does.

- Design an ecosystem that includes living (biotic) and nonliving (a biotic) components and illustrates interdependence
- Describe and explain food chains/webs and the directional flow of energy in various ecosystems (consumer herbivores, non living component)
- Predict and describe consequences of the removal of one component in a balanced ecosystem (consumer, herbivores, non living components)
